01動作環境

• macOS 27 以降（Apple シリコン搭載の Mac）
• ネットワーク接続は不要です。Left Right は通信しません。
• Mac App Store から入手できます。紹介ページから DMG を直接ダウンロードすることもできます（Developer ID 署名・Apple の公証済み）。

02何を比べられるか

Left Right は、ファイルの型と内容から比較の種類を自動で判定します。利用者が種類を選ぶ必要はありません。

• 2 つのテキストファイル — 左右 2 ペインに並べ、対応する行を水平に揃えて同期スクロールします。行単位の追加・削除・変更、行内ハイライト、塊単位のマージ、ペイン内検索（⌘F）に対応します。
• 2 つのフォルダー — 再帰的に走査し、ツリー表示（階層／一覧）で違いを並べます。比較モードは賢く／内容／メタデータ／バイトです。
• 3 つのファイル — 左・元・右として 3-way マージします。離れた変更は自動で合わせ、重なった変更は競合として git 互換の印で結果に残ります。
• 表 — CSV / TSV と .xlsx / .ods / .numbers を表として並べます。見出し行で列を対応づけ、鍵の列で行を対応づけられます。
• バイナリ — 16 進で同じオフセットどうしを比べます。両脇に見取り図（バイトマップ＋エントロピー帯）を出します。
• 画像 — 並べる／重ねる／境界を動かす／差分／点滅／熱地図の 6 つの見せ方と、しきい値を備えます。

03保存するまで書かない

テキストの編集・塊の取り込み・3-way の結果は、保存するまでディスクへ書きません。

• これらは内部バッファのみで扱われ、⌘S で初めてディスクに触れます。
• 比較を始めたあとでファイルがディスク上で変わったら、保存前に知らせます。

04フォルダーマージはその場で変える

フォルダー比較では、片側にしか無い項目を取り込めます。取り込みはその場でディスクを変えるため、次の点に注意してください。

• 上書きの前に、既存の項目をゴミ箱へ移します。
• 写し方は Finder と同じ（既定）／結合／置き換えから選べます。
• ゴミ箱に入れた項目は Finder から戻せます。

05ファイルへのアクセス

Left Right は App Sandbox の中で動きます。触れるのは、利用者が開いた・選んだファイルとフォルダーだけです。

最近使った比較はブックマークで覚えます。ブックマークが失効しても項目を消さず、灰色で残します。灰色の項目にあるアクセスを許可…から、もう一度許可できます。

ファイルの移動・改名・外付けボリューム・OS 更新で、ブックマークは失効します。

06git から呼ぶ

Left Right は git difftool / git mergetool から呼べます。CLI の実行体は同梱していません。

1. ヘルプ →「Git 連携…」を開きます。
2. 表示されたコマンドを、コマンドをコピーで写します。
3. ターミナルで実行します。

以後、git mergetool は競合を Left Right で開き、git difftool は変更を左右に並べて見せます。

Left Right を別のフォルダーへ移したら、ヘルプ →「Git 連携…」をもう一度開いて、コマンドを再実行してください。

07いまはできないこと

次のものは 1.0.0 に入っていません。

• 別名で保存
• 旧い .xls 形式（.xlsx に保存し直してから開いてください）
• パスワードで保護された .xlsx / .ods の比較（復号は行いません）
• 独立したミニマップ（スクロールバー上の差分目盛りで代えます）
• 左右をまとめた検索と置換（片側のペインの中ではできます）
• 折り返し表示（対応行の水平揃えと両立しません）
• 改行コードの一括変換（判定と維持だけを行います）
• 3 フォルダー比較、書庫（ZIP 等）の比較、パッチの適用
• 自動更新（アプリ内では更新しません）
• CLI の同梱
• Finder のクイックアクション、Finder Sync 拡張
• 実行時プラグイン機構、利用者定義の配色テーマ、差分アルゴリズムの選択

01Requirements

• macOS 27 or later on a Mac with Apple silicon
• No network connection is needed — Left Right does not communicate over the network.
• Download it from the Mac App Store, or download the DMG directly from the product page (signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple).

02What You Can Compare

Left Right picks the comparison type automatically from the file’s type and contents. You never have to choose.

• Two text files — side-by-side panes with corresponding lines aligned horizontally and synchronized scrolling. Line-level additions, deletions and changes, in-line highlights, hunk-by-hunk merge, and find in pane (⌘F).
• Two folders — recursive scanning with a tree view (hierarchy or list). Compare modes: Smart, Contents, Metadata, Bytes.
• Three files — a three-way merge with left, base and right. Separate changes merge automatically; overlapping changes stay in the result as git-compatible conflict markers.
• Tables — CSV / TSV and .xlsx / .ods / .numbers side by side. Align columns by the header row and match rows by a key column.
• Binary — hexadecimal, comparing the same offsets. A byte map and entropy strip on each side.
• Images — six views: Side by Side, Overlay, Slider, Difference, Blink and Heat Map, plus a threshold.

03Nothing Is Written Until You Save

Text editing, hunk merges and the three-way result do not touch the disk until you save.

• They live in memory only; ⌘S is the first moment the disk is touched.
• If a file changes on disk after the comparison starts, you are told before saving.

04Folder Merge Changes the Disk

In a folder comparison, you can copy items that exist only on one side. The copy changes the disk as it runs, so keep these points in mind.

• Existing items are moved to the Trash before an overwrite.
• Copying can follow the Finder (default), merge, or replace.
• Items in the Trash can be put back from the Finder.

05File Access

Left Right runs in the App Sandbox. It reaches only the files and folders you open or choose.

Recent comparisons are remembered as bookmarks. An expired bookmark is kept in gray rather than being dropped. Use Grant Access… on the gray item to grant access again.

Bookmarks expire when files are moved or renamed, on external volumes, or after an OS update.

06Calling Left Right from git

Left Right can be called from git difftool / git mergetool. No CLI is bundled.

1. Open Help → “Git Integration…”.
2. Use Copy commands to copy the commands shown.
3. Run them in Terminal.

After that, git mergetool opens conflicts in Left Right, and git difftool shows changes side by side.

If you move Left Right to another folder, open Help → “Git Integration…” again and run the commands once more.

07Not in This Version

These are not included in 1.0.0.

• Save As
• The legacy .xls format (save it as .xlsx first)
• Comparing password-protected .xlsx / .ods files (no decryption)
• A separate minimap (the marks on the scroll bar cover the same ground)
• Searching both sides at once and replacing across both sides (each pane can find and replace on its own)
• Line wrapping (it cannot coexist with aligning corresponding lines)
• Bulk conversion of line endings (they are detected and preserved only)
• Three-folder comparison, archive (ZIP and similar) comparison, and applying patches
• Automatic updates (the app does not update itself)
• A bundled CLI
• Finder Quick Actions and a Finder Sync extension
• A runtime plug-in mechanism, user-defined color themes, and choosing the difference algorithm
